Sun Dogs...
After getting a couple of questions, I want to clarify something. Sun Dogs, or a parhelia, are an optical effect caused by the sun's rays being refracted by six-sided ice crystals in the atmosphere. They usually occur when the weather is cold, and when the sun is close to the horizon. See this page for more information.
The Sun Dog I saw is the bright spot in the center of the photo below. And no, that isn't just a spot on the windsheild, because it maintained the same position in the sky. ![]() Sun Dogs are hard to photograph, because of their close proximity to the sun. Couple that with the over-all crappiness of my camera phone, and this is the best I could do. But you can still see it pretty clearly. |
